Tax Supervisor

Wm. F. Horne & Company currently seeks qualified candidates for a Tax Supervisor.

A Tax Supervisor is an experienced professional who demonstrates competence in the area of tax services. This supervisor will possess the ability to supervise projects and special assignments, make independent judgments and decisions, and yet keep close communication with other members of the firm as part of a close knit team. A self-starter who is highly organized, good at meeting time and quality expectations, and excellent people skills will flourish in this position. As a member of our tax practice, this person will participate regularly in practice and firm update meeting which provide for significant team interaction with partners and staff.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in complex tax return preparation and procedures.
  • Knowledgeably manage an assortment of tax compliance issues.
  • Participate in the supervision and mentoring of other team members by supporting the training of team members, offering guidance and direction, and giving constructive criticism.
  • Maintain and expand thorough knowledge of Taxation Codes and Regulations through CPE and other opportunities.
  • Build relationships through direct client involvement and partner interaction.
  • Prepare and review Federal and state tax returns for partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, and individuals.
  • Ensures that working papers, financial statements, tax returns, and other correspondence are prepared in accordance with professional and Firm standards.
  • Communicates project’s progress, problems, resolutions, financial information, tax activity and other business concerns to Managers, Senior Managers, or Partners.
  • Assists in recruiting entry-level and experienced staff by attending events and functions at colleges and performing such other recruiting duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.A./B.S. degree or master’s degree
  • Current CPA license acceptable for practice in the State of Mississippi or ability to obtain Mississippi reciprocal license
  • Solid accounting skills and knowledge
  • Understanding of Federal and State income tax compliance
  • Strong interpersonal skills for communicating appropriately with both firm and client personnel
  • Proficient in use of computers and computer accounting software
  • 3-5 years public accounting experience.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
